Ask us anything about pysanky—tools, technique, tradition and more . . . . To share our knowledge, our team of experts at www.babasbeeswax.com draws on not only our heritage, but also over 30 years teaching pysanky to all ages and levels of experience since 1991. Today's dialogue is on technique.
Question – What is the purpose of beeswax?
Answer – The beeswax resists the colour of the dye that the egg is put into; hence the term "wax-resist".
We believe that pysanky is fun and we embrace “Panya Pysanka”, our cool, hip, and whimsical mascot character. See her here in our “Ask Us Anything About Pysanky” post and elsewhere on social media to see how we promote pysanky.

Question
– Why
shouldn’t I practice on a piece of paper with my kistka?
Answer
– Paper has fibres, and fibres can collect in the
tip of your kistka, causing a blockage.

Today’s tip is about removing beeswax residue. We see
user groups all over the internet who could definitely benefit from this tip,
because it applies to not only beeswax, but also to unsightly pencil marks.
Wipe your egg with a cotton ball or tissue, dabbed in paint thinner or lighter
fluid (available from your hardware or convenience store). You can also do this
with discretion using a q-tip, at any step of the dyeing process.
Our team has you covered. You can trust the experts at Baba’s Beeswax.com. Our Mission is
to provide you with everything you need to make beautiful pysanky the

Here's an update on Bev Bakka's Stand With Ukraine Pysanky Workshop Fundrasier:
Drum roll...... $1145 went to the following humanitarian charities:
We sold Stand With Ukraine Pysanky Kits, hosted one workshop, two smaller informal get-togethers, and enjoyed being sponsored by Babas Beeswax. I am sold out of the kits/kitskas and so if you want to order pysanky supplies, you can contact Joan at www.babasbeeswax.com. I don't think I have ever met anyone with more skill and knowledge about Ukrainian Pysanky than Joan, not to mention supporting a local business that provides quality service and products. Thanks to the Klahanie Canoe Club strata and the caretaker, Benoit, and the staff, Mery. We could not have done it without you. Once again, well done everyone! Make Pysanky – Not War.
